The Heart of the City

Un projet dénommé The Heart of the City explore un morceau de ville de Boston aux Etats-Unis pour recenser et faire découvrir la structuration spatiale et sociale de ce territoire. Sous la forme d’un site internet The Heart of the City nous informe sur près de 250 lieux, 300 organisations et 400 liens. Des cartes sont disponibles et un moteur de recherche par mots clefs permet d’affiner ses propres questions et interrogations.
A l’initiative du Center for Urban and Regional Policy de Northeastern University , le projet établit de forts liens avec Harvard University dont le Rappaport Institute for Greater Boston et l’ Arnold Arboretum .

De nombreuses informations sur le logement et le 'community development' sont disponibles ainsi que de nombreux liens sur les organisations principales bostoniennes.

Project-NewOrleans: un site en projet.

Projets urbains, formes d’habitats, organisations de quartiers, idées de villes…tels sont les mots que l’on pourrait associer aux projets présentés sur le site de Project-NewOrleans qui collecte les projets d’architectes professionnels, étudiants ou activistes. Tous ces projets « post-katrina » recouvrent des formes très diverses. L’idée étant d’accepter le maximum de projets suite à la catastrophe, les échelles des projets varient de la dimension régionale à celle du quartier. Une nomenclature de classification des projets distingue les projets selon leurs types : projets urbains, analyses urbaines, infrastructures en rapport aux inondations ou formes d’habitat.
Cette collecte récente [octobre 2006] de projets s’alimente dans le site de Project-NewOrleans au fur et a mesure que les équipes ou individuels inscrivent et mettent en ligne leurs projets. On y retrouve les projets de concours comme ceux organisés par Global Green USA Competition ou bien ceux de Architectural Record, mais aussi les initiatives diverses comme celles du New Orleans Neighborhood Rebuilding Plan, du Urban Land Institute ou bien organisé par le Unified New Orleans Plan.
Les initiateurs de ce Project-NewOrleans sont Michael Sorkin architecte et professeur à College of the City of New York, Anthony Fontenot PhD doctorant au département d’architecture de l’Université de Princeton et Carol McMichael Reese professeure au departement d’architecture de l’Université de Tulane à la Nouvelle-Orléans.

Dear All,

This is the FIRST message of HABITACTION*.
HABITACTION is a blog on housing ready-made, urban knowledge making, and city makers.
It aims to be an open table for researchers and professionals in the fields of the social and human sciences like history and sociology, applied sciences and art, and is more specialized in urban planning and politics, architecture, and environmental issues.
HABITACTION will start as an open diary, collecting articles, information, from three main countries of interests: the United States, France and Mexico.

This blog has started from past experiences and ideas. Some other 'short' blogs have been already created : one on New Orleans and its reconstruction called Urbankatrina, and two on teaching experiences in Mexico, one at the Tec de Monterrey, Campus Guadalajara, called Paisaje Urbano and one at the Escuela Superior de Arquitectura while teaching a 'taller urbano' on a central neighborhood of Guadalajara.
HABITACTION will try to combine all those interests in one and will be related to my PhD in sociology at the Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales, EHESS, in France and some related works in my professional activities.

HABITACTION opens its first post as an homage to l'Abbe Pierre, a french priest and activist working for the homeless and the poor. HABITACTION seeks also to dream and navigate through utopias, urban and social realm far from the ones described by the reality of the Abbe Pierre.

To illustrate this last idea I will link two short videos from the sixties available on the web site of the Institut National de l'Audiovisuel [in France]. They both explain the desires of HABITACTION seeking and balancing between real news and utopias.
